Imagin’Air: Combining TEFL for kids with Summer Kids’ Clubs

Screen shot 2013-04-09 at 8.54.45 AMWhat if you could take non-English speaking kids around the world to places where kids speak English and have them home each night in time for bed? Imagin’Air is a make-believe airline that does just that!

Using videos, music and games, Imagin’Air is a 5-day vacation activity for groups of kids from 5-10 years old that introduces them to English and God’s amazing love for them.

The English learning activities are serious fun AND serious language learning. Using the “big group, small group” concept, kids gather together for a “flight” including a puppet pilot and flight attendant, a “tour guide” to tell them about their adventure, and an “in-flight” movie each day to get them excited about their flight to places like California, Texas and New York. (Check them out on Vimeo!)

Then it’s off to their smaller age groupings to enjoy active learning with native English speakers and local language helpers.

Durand Robinson, director of Wildfire Communications, created the stories, songs and music, edited the videos and produced the music recordings. Over a 4-month period with the help of a handful of friends and a few thousand dollars for materials and travel. There are three more programs in the pipe-line. The Program is currently in five languages (French, German, Polish, Serbo-Croatian, and English) and has helped hundreds of kids each summer to gain a real advantage in learning English and in living life to the full.
